For a long time, the Holidays brought on a lot of stress for me and my relationship with food and my body.
I felt very out of control at Holiday parties and dinners with my food choices. This time of year used to really exacerbate disordered eating patterns I developed through years of yo-yo dieting.
I would often force myself through food deprivation to enjoy a Holiday dinner, or participate in a brutal, extra-long workout before/ after to “make up” for how “bad” I was for eating calorie-dense foods.
The deprivation ultimately led to binging at mealtime to the point of being uncomfortably full, or even ill! I’ve been so full to the point of throwing up...it felt absolutely terrible.
This was then followed by extreme guilt over my eating behaviors. Eating during the Holidays brought on a lot of negative feelings about myself and my body for a long time.
What I’m sharing with you today is a change in mindset that helped pull me out of this negative cycle of deprivation/ binging, exercise as punishment, and negative self-image mentality that I struggled with for years, especially around the Holidays.
